We also offer some of the most efficient heat pumps on the market, and we are always happy to provide our Atlanta area customers with our expert advice on the right heat pump for their homes.

Air Source Heat pump

Air source heat pumps are one of the most efficient ways to heat and cool a home. They work by transferring the heat from the outside air to your home in the winter and sending the warm air outside the home in the summer. The heated or cooled air is then sent back through the air ducts and redistributed throughout the home. If your air source heat pump that is older than 15 years old, you should speak to one of our heating technicians about a new heat pump installation. Newer models are much more efficient than the heat pumps that were manufactured even 10 years ago. Although some systems are efficient enough to work in colder climates, most heat pump systems require a backup heater when temperatures drop below 20° F. They are especially ideal for warmer climates because they usually don’t require a backup heater, and they can cool the home in addition to heating it.

Heat Pump Ratings

Like new furnaces, newer model heat pumps are rated by a percentage called an AFUE rating. When you are comparing heat pump prices, look for heat pump systems with higher AFUE ratings or ones that have an Energy Star label. A good AFUE rating is at least 80%, and the most efficient heat pumps will have an AFUE number close to 100%. Keep in mind that this percentage only accounts for the amount of fuel that is turned into hot or cold air, and it doesn’t factor in duct leaks or poor insulation. It’s always important to make sure your home is well-insulated before installing a new heat pump. Give us a call if you have any questions about new heat pumps.

Heat Pump Installation Process

Even if your existing forced air heating system is currently connected to a furnace, the new heat pump installation process should be pretty straight forward and simple because the heat pump will connect up with your existing ductwork. Removing your old furnace and installing the heat pump itself is all there is to it and our technicians have years of experience providing this service.

Usually your heat pump will be installed outside your home so it can easily draw in clean, fresh air. Like a traditional AC unit you’ll of course want to clean the area around the heat pump to ensure debris doesn’t build up. This not only prevents damage but allows for easy access for when you need to change filters or your technician needs to access the unit for routine maintenance or repairs.
