First, you have to determine that it’s not worth repairing any longer. Then, you have to decide what sort of system to replace it with and select the specific model. Finally, you must make an appointment to have that system professionally installed.

Done all that? Great! But you’re not finished yet.

The appointment itself can be a bit of a mystery to homeowners who haven’t been through it before, or to folks whose last experience with AC installation was twelve or more years ago. What should you expect? How long will it take? And what can you do to prepare your home for your air conditioning installation? We’ll tell you everything.

What to Expect During Your AC Installation

When your technicians arrive to do the installation, they’ll assess the lay of the land first. They’ll make sure they know where everything is and that the way is clear to carry AC units back and forth. They’ll let you know exactly what the plan is, and then they’ll prepare the area, to make sure they won’t cause unnecessary mess or damage.

The old units, both indoors and out, will have to be disconnected and carried out to make room for the new units. Those will be brought in and connected. The technicians will start up the air conditioner and make sure it’s running perfectly. They’ll give you the owner’s manual and answer any questions you have, they’ll clean up the area, and then they’ll be on their way.

How Long AC Installation Takes

It’s best to clear your schedule for the whole day, as AC installation can take up to eight hours. Sometimes, though, it can be done in as little as four hours! The only times when it will take more than a single day are situations where significant modifications are needed, such as if you’ve never had central AC before, or if your ductwork needs major repairs.

How to Prepare Your Home for AC Installation

To help your installation go as quickly as possible, you can do a little work ahead of time to make things easy for your installers. First, consider parking. Where will the truck go? Which door will it be best to carry appliances in and out of? Make sure there’s a clear path free of obstructions all the way from the parking spot to the indoor unit, and space to work indoors.

Also, clear a path from the parking spot to the outdoor unit, moving anything it would be easy to trip over or bump into while moving the units. Clear away everything that might be around the outdoor unit: leaf litter, lawn clippings, plants growing close against it. Trim back any shrubs to make space to work and to maximize airflow to your new unit.

Finally, you’ll want to consider your pets. We’d hate to step on a paw or feel responsible for an indoor cat getting out. They’ll be safest—and the installation will be easiest—if you close them in a room in a different part of the house while the technicians are there.

Now you should be all ready for your air conditioning replacement in Snellville, GA! But if you do have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

Reach out to Wall Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. with any inquiries or to make an appointment.

What should you expect?
